Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

It's become more and more apparent that if I try to maintain this blog as nothing more than a catalogue of sketches and process collages, it will see updates perhaps only a handful of days out of the year, if any at all. So, perhaps it's better that I utilize this in other ways. Perhaps it's time to finally settle down and dedicate myself to the upkeep of just one blog instead of spreading my presence across numerous blogging sites.

Hopefully something more insightful will come of this.

Yondaime

Not sure if I'll get to finish this, so I'm uploading it now. Minato is one of my favourite characters in Naruto, even though we don't see him all too often... and he's dead.

Comparing my attempt to draw Minato from last June to this attempt. Mrr... Not a vast improvement, if any at all.

Spirited Away

Thought I'd upload the process for my Spirited Away piece. I only have saves from the initial sketch, though, and not from the colouring process =/ It was mostly just slapping on some sloppy colours anyway.

Nidaime Process

Finally got around to putting together the process sketches from my Nidaime sketch. I saved a lot of them since my computer crashes on a regular basis and I was afraid of losing my work. They also gave me checkpoints in case I ever messed up beyond what the history feature saved for me, since I usually work on one layer instead of multiple ones like a smart person would do.

I just don't have the base sketch that I used to start the image :( I thought I did, but I can't find it. Maybe I mislabeled it.

Itachi Sketch

Although my interest in the NARUTO series has dwindled over the last year or so, I still keep up with the manga. When my favourite moments of Shippuuden were animated, I started to watch the anime once more. Of those episodes were the ones where Itachi battle Sasuke and died. One of my favourite parts was the flashback sequence in episode 141 when Sasuke learns the truth about Itachi. If anything, the music really did it for me. It was a nice combination.

Itachi's always been one of my favourite characters, but as with all my favourite characters of any series, he rarely gets drawn because he's always given me difficulty and it's always hard to think of something good to draw.

I was originally going to draw a dying Itachi as he said his final words to Sasuke, but I really liked the moement he said he'd always be there for Sasuke no matter what. So, I chose that scene to redraw.

I didn't get to save as many progress shots during this one because it was such a quicksketch. So, there is a big gap between the second and third images, as well as between the third and final imag
e :(

As I mentioned, I find it difficult to draw anything in Itachi's likeness, which is why there is little resemblance here. Still, I suppose there's slight improvement over the last time I drew Itachi a little over a year ago, if you overlook the different techniques and lack of colour in the more recent image.

Mirai Gohan Revisted

I was browsing through my folders and discovered some sketches I thought I had long lost. I'd actually put them in some random folder that had nothing to do with drawing whatsoever.

Anyway, I was taking a break from commissions so I would have a fresh look on them when I continued, which also helps me to pinpoint problem areas (staring at something too long makes that difficult). I found this unfinished sketch of Mirai Gohan from last April and thought I'd tinker with it. That's pretty much it.

It never really quite looked like him to begin with, but oh well...

Yondaime

Started another sketch. I figured that since I'm drawing Nidaime, I might as well draw out all the other Hokages. After all, they're some of my favourite characters in the series. I have a soft spot for minor characters.

Anyway, basically the first stages of the first few minutes of my sketch process.

1. A basic sketch of what I want. This typically
looks more animated than the final product :(

2. I lower my brush opacity and give myself an idea
of where I want shadows. Then I lower my
opacity to about 10% and shade in the face
a little.

3. I start blending in the shadows into the basic skin
shade. I don't use the smudge tool when I sketch.
I usually toy around with the default round
brushes to get the right effects, and alternate
between using black and white on the face.

More later... I'm gonna go back to working on the other things I have to.

Hello, Internetz...

First entry... Wheeeeee.

Just a quick sketch since I quickly got bored of the other three I started.

I've been drawing a lot of canon couples lately for some reason...
